Vinpocetine is a brain-stimulating derivative of vincamine, which is extracted from the Vinca minor periwinkle plant. Often called Viagra for the brain, it is considered to be a cerebral vasodilator that increases blood flow to the brain and thus, boosts memory and cerebral functioning. Vinpocetine is also a nootropic, or "smart drug," that may be used to enhance the brain's capacity to focus, concentrate, and retain a greater amount of information.

For centuries, the Bacopa monnieri herb was used in Ayurvedic, or Indian, medicinal practices, and continues to be prominent today. Bacopa has been scientifically found to enhance the cognitive functions of the brain. Lab studies have shown that this herb significantly increases learning capacity and has positive effects on the "retention of new information" Similarly, an Australian study determined that this supplement "decreases the rate of forgetting of newly acquired information." Bacopa also has many antioxidant properties that help support immunity, thus strengthening the body at the same time as the mind!

Acetyl-L-Carnitine, or ALCAR, is an amino acid that is derived from L-Carnitine and functions as a supplement to aid the body in the production of energy. ALCAR possesses antioxidant properties after crossing the blood-brain barrier and reaching circulation. As a result, brain cells do not undergo an extensive amount of oxidation and therefore, do not deteriorate. This is imperative for improving brain capacity and memory. By taking the ALCAR supplement, it is possible to prevent Alzheimer's and Parkinson's diseases from developing in the future.

An amino acid commonly found in green tea, L-Theanine has been demonstrated to reduce mental and physical stress, improve cognition and boost mood. Its ability to reduce stress by inducing a relaxing effect without causing drowsiness makes it particularly synergistic with caffeine. L-Theanine main mechanism of action is by increasing brain serotonin, dopamine and GABA levels. L-theanine causes more alpha-brain wave activity in the brain which is sign of increased relaxation. Its ability to work against the negative side effects of caffeine makes it a perfect addition to the Doxiderol formula.

A natural component of chocolate, coffee and tea, caffeine is the world's most commonly used nootropic. Ingesting caffeine stimulates your nervous system giving you a mental and physical boost. Caffeine gets you alert by fooling adenosine receptors in the brain. Adenosine typically slows down nerve cell activity but caffeine binds to the adenosine receptors and actually speeds up activity. Caffeine may allow you to participate in mental activities for longer periods and times. The addition of L-Theanine helps to counteract the negative side effects that caffeine may cause.

Citicoline, also known as cytidine diphosphate-choline (CDP-Choline) is a chemical in the brain that occurs naturally in the body. Citicoline functions as an intermediate in the production of phosphatidylcholine from choline. Phosphatidylcholine, in turn, plays an important role in neuron signaling in the brain. Studies show that citicoline may also function by increasing dopamine receptor densities, thus allowing improvement in focus and mental energy. Citicoline has also been found helpful in the treatment of attention deficit disorder (ADD).
